The Lower Elementary classrooms at Love of Learning Montessori School are structured to support the student’s transition between concrete learning to abstract thinking. The curriculum has a set sequence to certify academic achievement, however each student is provided the individual support to work through material at their own pace. For example, there are specific benchmarks which students are expected to reach at key developmental points in their academic trajectory. The lower elementary environment also centers social, emotional, and intellectual development within the classroom to ensure children experience a holistic understanding of knowledge. Mastery of the basics in reading, writing, time management, independent work and collaboration with peers helps to elevate students’ engagement with core subject materials as well as relevant subjects in their spheres of immediate interest; students read, share and discuss current events as part of their daily work. Experiential learning is integral to adhering to our founding purpose; this includes maximizing our outdoor space for lessons and programs. Our Montessori certified teachers build relationships with each student and customize lessons to maximize their balance of interests with the goals of the core curriculum.
