Love of Learning Montessori School’s Lower Elementary classrooms are structured to support the student’s transition from concrete learning to abstract thinking. The Lower Elementary environment creates a holistic learning experience, emphasizing social, emotional, and intellectual development. Curriculum is intentionally sequenced to certify academic achievement, however, each student is provided the individual support to work through material at their own pace. For example, there are specific benchmarks that students are expected to reach at key developmental points in their academic trajectory. Teachers build relationships with each student, and customize lessons to best support personal progress toward the goals of the core curriculum. Mastery of the basics in reading, writing, time management, independent work, and collaboration with peers helps to elevate students’ engagement with core subject materials, as well as relevant subjects in their spheres of immediate interest; students read, share, and discuss current events as part of their daily work. Experiential learning is an integral component of our founding purpose, which includes maximizing our outdoor space for activities and instruction.
